I went down to Foodshed following their suggestion to try some of their Keto friendly items on one of my Instagram posts.

I fell in love with the minimal decor; beautiful chevron patterned floors, wooden tables, small light fixtures and lavender in tin watering pots placed in charming corners. The best part were the huge windows/glass doors and how they allowed the sun to brighten up the whole space.

Staff were kind and accommodating. A lovely lady named Annadel took our orders. I was being a particularly difficult customer that day (not on purpose). I had her change the order atleast 4 times but she remained patient and sweet through it all.

I asked for the Keto special and it was phenomenal! Tender chicken strips in cooked in an exquisite, buttery mushroom sauce with a side of fragrant riced cauliflower. Don’t let the the portion size fool you because it’s quite dense and will definitely fill you up. You won’t find this item on the menu, but it’s up on the board along with the list of coffee and other beverages. I also ordered a very refreshing mint lemonade with my meal.

My friend asked for the buttermilk fried chicken. It came with a side of potato wedges and coleslaw and he was really into it. Obviously it wasn’t keto friendly, but that didn’t stop me from taking a tiny bite of the chicken. And let me tell you, the chef knew exactly what he/she was doing. So delicious!

On the down side, the superfood salad (kale, quinoa, avocado and a whole bunch of nutritious veggies) with the side of prawns was the only thing that could use some improvement. The prawns were too cold and difficult to chew. Avoiding the quinoa was pretty difficult too, but that’s mostly my fault for not reading the description on the menu. Amazing salad dressing though.

After lunch, we sat outside at one of their picnic style tables. I got an iced latte with coconut milk and a Spanish iced coffee for my friend. I’ve always been reluctant to order iced coffee, but I totally understand the appeal now. It was very cooling and not as bitter as I’d expected.

Final notes:
People in Khalifa Park area have no idea how good they have it with all the fantastic restaurants in their neighbourhood. Foodshed is definitely up there with the greats, not just for catering to Ketoers, but for the calm ambiance and wonderful service it provides. I strongly recommend it to anyone who’s looking to de-stress and in search of a good meal.

Barbeque Nation

Happy Friday my loves! The hunt for keto friendly eateries is a never ending one. I’m always tasked with picking a place that works for me and my non-keto friends and family. So, as always, I had to scroll past restaurants on several food apps and stumbled upon Barbeque Nation. I was quiet surprised that it was the first time I’ve heard about it even though they have manyΒ branches throughout the world. Eat all you can Indian barbecue at a reasonable price? YES PLEASE!

Anyway, here’s a summary of how it all went down.

The dinner buffet starts at 6:30pm and for a restaurant tucked in the corner of the ground floor at the mall, it got filled up pretty quick. I always take that as a good sign.

Lots of great seating options. There were comfortable booths with mini grills fitted in the middle of the tables.

I took the liberty of having a quick look around the buffet and found out that they have cooking live stations for Indian desserts and savory snacks (chaat).

Sadly, I couldn’t have any, but I did rack up on some nice salads I found at the salad bar.

Speaking of live cooking stations, I wanted to try some of the spicy tawa fried vegetables (mostly eggplants and lady fingers).

Taste wise, I think it needs some work. It was a little too dry and difficult to chew for me.

Later, we found out the restaurant had an African themed buffet and this will go on for about 2 weeks (I think it’s til the end of July).

I got myself a small serving of their African peanut soup. First I’ve ever heard of it, to be honest. It was light, well seasoned and had a little nutty flavor to it. I’ve also noticed they had an Ethiopian fish stew! I had to pass on it because I was trying to save up as much space as possible for the main course.

As soon as we headed back to our booth, the waiter showed up with hot skewers of chicken, fish and shrimp. They come in 3 levels of spiciness, so naturally, we went for the extreme. The marination was excellent! Tangy and packing just the right amount of heat. So delicious! We also got additional Berebere mutton kebabs, which were also phenomenal!

Our waiter explained that the grilled meats will keep coming until we lower a small flag at the table that said “I give up”. I thought it was cute and worth mentioning.

Final notes:

I definitely recommend going to this place if you’re following a carnivore keto diet. It’s also perfect for small family gatherings or for a late lunch after work with your colleagues. Great value for money; we ended up spending less than 200 dhs for all that delicious food. Special thanks to the amazing team at Barbeque Nation for making our first visit a very memorable one. Can’t wait to go back and try new things!

Three S Nutrition Bistro

I got held up at work today and didn’t get a chance to make lunch, so I did the next best thing; ordering in from one of the top rated healthy food restaurants on Zomato, Three S Nutrition!

I was not disappointed! I got the superfood salad which consists of kale, broccoli, avocado, topped with dried cranberries, roasted walnuts, chopped almonds and sesame seeds. Perfect for vegans! I had some grilled chicken added in for my portion of proteins.

It was a beautiful, colorful salad with a nice little crunchiness to it. I tried to avoid the dried cranberries as much as I could since they are notoriously high in sugar. There are several great dressings you can go with. The serving size was pretty huge which is why I saved some for dinner.

I also wanted to try their collard greens with an added serving of grilled salmon on their sides menu, purely out of curiosity. The kale and spinach were perfectly cooked and seasoned. About a couple of bites in, I noticed that it also had a sweet, caramel-ish aftertaste. So, I ended up sharing it with my sister to avoid messing up what I had going with the Keto diet. I checked in with the restaurant to see where the sweetness was coming from. Turns out the chef’s special recipe calls for half a tsp of brown sugar, which isn’t so bad (about 1.5 g of carbs). Overall, a wonderful side dish. Loved it!

Which brings me to my next point; it’s always best to check in with restaurants what their dressings and certain salads contain to avoid unintentionally stacking up on carbs.

Final notes:
I am officially a fan of this place. You can tell so much care and effort goes into to preparing the meals. Their staff members were super sweet and didn’t get annoyed with my incessant questions. They’ve got fresh and nutritious options that work for any kind of diet, really. Cant wait to try their other items or give them a visit!

Poke Poke

I always loved ordering from Poke-Poke ever since it opened up here in Abu Dhabi. It’s one of the few healthy food restaurants that consistently gets your order right without holding back on the exotic signature sauces (pick any, you can’t go wrong!)

I was quite bummed out when they disappeared from all food delivery apps last year. But all that changed since I found out that they collaborated with The Raw Place at WTC Souk. There’s now a small seating area if you decide to dine in.

Now obviously the rice base was out of the question (still good btw). So my friend and I settled for the spiraled vegetables and mixed greens to keep the carbs content as low as possible.

I chose the poke bowl ingredients individually. It had wakame, avocado, coriander, seaweed salad and sliced cucumbers. I had the biggest craving for seafood which is why I added the chimichurri marinated prawns for the protein. For the final toppings, I chose wasabi toasted shredded coconut, crispy garlic and spicy cashews and a sriracha mayo drizzle. The greatest blend of flavours! I was dancing in my seat, that’s how amazingly delicious it was!

My friend chose one of their signature bowls, the Farmer’s bowl. Colorful, nutritious and tasty. He seemed to be having a party in his mouth as well.

Final notes: Keto, vegan or not, you gotta try out their Poke bowls if you haven’t already. You can thank me later.

As part of the new keto-friendly eateries review series, I decided to kick things off by ordering in from a new restaurant I just discovered called Ketology.

I love the idea that a restaurant finally decided to cater to the growing keto community in Abu Dhabi and I really hope more restaurants follow in their footsteps. That being said, let’s get down to business and talk about their food options.

First off, their menu contains quite a nice variety of options: healthy breakfasts, soups and vegetarian food. Best part is that they include the calorie content and macronutrients to help you track your carbs, protein and fats intake!

I ordered the spinach and artichoke stuffed chicken. It comes with a small portion of mixed greens. I added in a side of cauliflower rice as well. Taste wise, unfortunately, it wasnt the best. The chicken and cauliflower rice were both dry and stuffing wasn’t seasoned enough for my taste.

I also ordered the avo-arigula salad, which was actually pretty nice. The dressing was perfect and really livened up the salad bowl.

For a light desert, I ordered the cutest little raspberry bomb. It’s made with cream cheese and yogurt. Tiny but super rich in flavour!

Final verdict:
Amazing concept and menu, however, if I do end up ordering again, I’d probably go with a different main dish. The food is a little over priced compared to the portion sizes too.

Ola Brasil

Rating: 5/5 πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
Avg Cost for two : AED 300

This post is especially dedicated to anyone looking to tap into their inner carnivore.

I had the pleasure of dining at a newly opened Churrascaria in Masdar city last weekend. Here’s a summary of my wonderful experience at Ola Brasil.
Staff and Ambience:

Seeing as we literally had to drive past the “bon voyage” sign near Abu Dhabi Int’l Airport, you should know that this is the only con about our visit. That being said, it was actually nice to be away from all the noise whilst enjoying several delicious meals.

Chic interiors. Great seating options. We sat at a charming corner with rich teal walls, soft lighting, wooden floors and marble-top tables. I particularly enjoyed the latin lounge music that played in the background. There is something very soothing about the whole ambience which makes it an ideal choice if you want to impress that date of yours.

The staff were cheerful and welcomed us with beaming smiles. We were served by several waiters that were professional and quick on their feet. They were kind enough to show me around the grill shack.

Full disclosure, I didn’t have the slightest idea of what a Churrascaria was prior to my visit. For my fellow noobs, it’s a place that serves grilled/barbecued meats with some of that latin flame. One of the things I liked was how straightforward their menu was. The meals came in several packages. You could either stick to items from the unlimited salad bar, or dial it up a notch by adding 12 or 25 types of meat.

Soon as we placed our orders, we headed to the salad bar which was quite decent. It covered all the basic salads and all the dressings you can think of, as well as some continental food choices.

I helped myself to some of their roasted vegetables, creamy egg salad and some delicious sauteed chicken strips. A light and flavorsome appetizer!

Once we got back to our table, the waitress directed our attention to a little button we’d have to press once we were ready to start the meat sampling feast.

As the the button lit up, meat servers started showing up one after the other with flaming hot meat skewers on one hand and a huge butcher’s knife on the other. I was honestly overwhelmed by the variety of the meat cuts.

Avg cost for 2: AED 130.00

Though they’re well known for their mini molten/lava cake jars, we opted for something from their breakfast menu.

I got the Holandaise Waffle; savory waffles topped with poached eggs, feta cheese and spinach, served with mushrooms. The waffles weren’t exactly the greatest, but it was still a good meal otherwise.

Rating: 3.5/5

My friend got the Cheese CrΓ©pe; contains mozzarella cheese, pesto sauce and rocca leaves. Very delicious and I think that pomegranate molasses really made all the flavors come together nicely.

Rating: 4/5

(Side note: they also make Karak pancakes. You’re welcome. )

We tried their Red Velvet Latte and an Americano coffee. Both coffees were pretty great. Quality.Β πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ

Staff & Ambience:

The place has both indoor and outdoor seating options. The service was quick, but on the down side, the staff weren’t the friendliest. It seemed like the lady that waited on our table wasn’t exactly a fan of answering simple questions. Really hope it’s a mild case of Sunday blues.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, it was a nice breakfast and I would love to go back just to try their cakes some time.
